GRIP Scholarship Application

The Grip Scholarship is named after Nathanial Allison Murray a founder (Jewel) of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., and noted educator in Washington, D.C. 

Rho Tau Lambda and its chapter members fund and proudly offer this scholarship to secure the legacy of generational academic excellence through members children or loved ones. 

The scholarship is one small step towards closing the education opportunity gap by providing financial assistance to high school seniors that demonstrate leadership, academic excellence and community service.

Scholarships will be awarded in June 2025.
Applications must be submitted by: May 4, 2025, 11:59 PM.
Scholarship amount: $1,750 | Number of scholarships available: Two (2)

GRIP Scholarship Eligibility:
To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must meet the following requirements at the time of submission:

  • Must be a graduating high school senior (2024-2025 school year) or current college student.

  • Have a minimum GPA of 3.0

  • Submission of an unofficial high school or college transcript

  • All transcripts must be submitted using the grading policy/GPA scale currently used by their school

  • Illustrate a commitment to community service or an extracurricular activity

  • Father or grandfather must be an active member of the Rho Tau Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.

  • Student must reside and/or attend a high school in Baltimore City or Baltimore County. College applicants mush be enrolled in a college or university.

  • High school student applicants must provide an acceptance letter from college/university (copy must be enclosed with application)

Awards will be announced in June 2025. Scholars will be required to attend a scholarship awards ceremony.
